Preparing for the Banquet

Greetings from the Minden-South Webster Chamber. I am certain everyone is busy making preparations for Minden's St. Jude Auction that started yesterday. The Chamber heartily supports Minden St. Jude in its fund-raising efforts. I will be manning the microphone at the Auction on Sunday from 1-3. Make plans to come by and have lunch and make fun of me!

We are also gearing up for our annual Membership Banquet. This year's event will be held Thursday, February 21, at 7:00 at the Minden Civic Center. Expect an elegant evening with wonderful food, fellowship and surprises. We will be awarding Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Businessperson of the Year, and Community Partner. The Lion's Club will present Minden's Man of the Year. The Young Women's Service Club will award the Woman of the Year to a deserving recipient as well. Dr. Philip Rozeman will speak about "A Changing World: The Business Community Leads." Dr. Rozeman is a well-known cardiologist from our area. He has a successful practice both in Shreveport and Minden. Dr. Rozeman has been actively involved in many civic organizations including the "Committee of One Hundred." We are excited to have Dr. Rozeman share his incites with us.

The Minden High School Louisi-Annes will be in attendance helping Jimmy Hall and Party Express Catering with dinner service. The Louisi-Annes are planning a trip to Memphis to perform at St. Jude Hospital in March. We are asking banquet guests to support their trip by "tipping" their servers during the banquet. Let's help Minden's Goodwill Ambassadors as they make plans to bring a little joy to the children at St. Jude.

Also in attendance will be two very special guests. Miss Minden, Elizabeth Wise and Lauren Vizza, Miss Louisiana will be available for photos before the banquet begins.

Reservations for the dinner can be made by calling the Chamber at 377-4240. Cost is $40 per person.

I am so thankful to area businesses who have committed to making the banquet a stellar event. Our list of sponsors includes:

Title Sponsor: MBL Bank

Premier Sponsors: Cardiovascular Consultants and Citizens National Bank

Corporate Sponsors: Meadowview Health & Rehab, TG Companies, Town & Country Health & Rehab/Weston Place, Blazer Construction, Richland State Bank, McInnis Insurance, Gibsland Bank & Trust, Hebert's Town & Country Ford, Waller Petroleum, Allstate-Gina Almond, Minden Medical Center, The Fleming Group/Subway, Coordinating & Development Corporation, Clement Industries, Minden Press-Herald, Minden Home Care, and David Raines Community Health.

Another event that will have a positive economic impact on our area is the Louisiana Association of Chambers of Commerce Executives (LACCE) fall conference August 23-24. This will bring 100-150 LACCE members from all over the state. Holiday Inn Express is our host hotel and conference events will take place at the Civic Center. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase Minden and south Webster Parish to participants from all over Louisiana. As a newly appointed member of the LACCE Board of Directors, I am excited that the Minden-South Webster Chamber will serve as the host for the fall conference.

As always, please remember to support our local businesses.

Jerri de Pingre' is the President of the Minden-South Webster Chamber of Commerce. Her column runs monthly in the Minden Press-Herald.
