John Bert Pope

John Bert Pope, 81, of Shongaloo died Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at his home in Shongaloo.

John was born Jan. 6, 1931 in Minden to the late Walter Lipsey and Ida Mai (Chanler) Pope. He was a retired carpenter and a recipient of the Quarter Century Award from International Paper Company.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, William Charlie Pope and James Walter Pope.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jean (Hunter) Pope of Shongaloo; sons, Garry Wayne Pope and wife, Debbie of Sarepta and Michael Ray Pope and wife, Peggy of Shongaloo; grandsons, Scotty Ray Pope of Shongaloo and Tony Michael Pope and wife, Jessica of West Monroe; granddaughters, Kimberly Louise Moss and husband, Tommy, Diane Kaye Myers and Kathy Jean Martin and husband, Gary all of Shongaloo; great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn Brooke Sherman, Shelby Madison Dubois and Kalli Nichole Martin all of Shongaloo, Elaina Moss of Shongaloo and Lizzie Pope of West Monroe; great-grandsons, Adam Dubois of Shongaloo, Gary Martin, Jr. of Shongaloo, Adian Nehls of Sarepta and Thomas Terril Moss, III of Shongaloo; stepgranddaughters, Kacyee Nehls and husband, Jeremy of Sarepta, LaLanda Moss of Minden, Holley Lebutt and husband, Brian of Athens and Christina Moss of Bossier City; brother-in-law, Ben Anderson; sisters-in-law; Virginia Anderson, Peggy Pope, Glenda Pope and Lou Ellen Anderson; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins; and a host of friends.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today (Friday, August 24, 2012) at Lewis Chapel with Bro. Danny Triplet officiating and assisted by Rev. Joey Anderson. Burial followed at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Springhill. Visitation was Thursday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Tommy Moss, Billy Dubois, Sr., Billy Dubois, Jr., Wayne Newsom, Jackie Anderson and Randy Anderson. Honorary pallbearer was Ben Anderson.
