Jessie Mae Allen "Sistah" Gilbert was born Dec. 25, 1909, the oldest of four children. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined New Light Baptist Church where she served on the Nurse's Aid Board. She was faithful until her health began to fail.
She was known for speaking her piece; saying whatever was on her mind, to whomever and doing just what she wanted, no matter what it was. She was a very strong and spirited woman who enjoyed life to the fullest.
She loved to go fishing with her daughter Tap and best friend Vila Mae, among other "activities" back in the day. She referred to herself as "the best there was." If you ever met "Sistah," you were not soon to forget her – just ask anyone who knew her!
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Ruby and Virgie; and son, Robert Earl; grandchildren, Bobbie, Dianne, Thelma and Charles; and siblings, James, Gene and Juline.
She leaves many fond memories and will truly be missed by her loving children, Maxine (W.C.) Fuller and Luther "Cheetah" Gilbert; 25 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren, and 37 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
