Selma Harris

Selma_HarrisFuneral services for Mr. Selma Harris, 90, will be held Saturday, September17 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Emory Smith, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Selma Harris was born Feb. 3, 1921 to Mitchell Harris, Sr. and Arrie Mae Tate Harris in Claiborne Parish. He was the oldest of 18 children born.

He united with Mt. Olive Baptist Church at an early age and remained a faithful member until his health prevented him.

Selma Harris joined in marriage to Louis Lewis. To this union, seven children were born.

Mr. Harris worked for Williamette for 14 years. He touched lives near and far. He shared his love, cracked jokes, and rode around town in his motorized chair.

He departed this earthly life on Sept. 6, 2011 at Meadowview Nursing Home.

He leaves to cherish his memory five daughters, Dorothy Hall, Mattie Fay Ellis (Curtis), Nettie Mae Harris, Gloria Harris and Lue Reecie Harris; two sons, Lee Wayne Harris and Sylvester Harris; three sisters, Annie Lee Harris, Maggie Henderson and Eletha Lewis (Terry); two brothers, Columbus Thomas Harris (Mordean) and William Harris (Christene); 15 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a very special niece, Darlene Edwards; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 16 in the chapel of Kennon's Mortuary from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. with family hour from 6 until 7 p.m. Services are entrusted to Kennon's Mortuary. Email condolences may be sent to kennonsmortuary@suddenlink.net.
