Funeral services for Mr. Melvin Ervin, 73, will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 10 a.m. in Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddy Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Plain Dealing Cemetery with military graveside rites by Barksdale U.S. Air Force Honor Guard under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Plain Dealing.
Visitation will be held today (Tuesday) from 5 until 8 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home, Plain Dealing.
Mr. Ervin was born March 24, 1938 in Shreveport to Alphonso and Susie Crowley Ervin and passed away Monday, June 27, 2011 in Vivian.
He was a lifelong resident of this area and a former employee of the Bossier Parish Police Jury and Burns Security Company. Mr. Ervin was also a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War.
He is survived by his brothers, twin, Elvin Ervin and wife, Mary of Plain Dealing and Charles Ervin and wife, June of Mullins, West Virginia; sisters, Janette Tibbals of Stone Mountain, Georgia and Sue Parlier and husband, Ron of Atlanta, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Robert Wayne Ervin, Rocky Dunn, Doc Ivor Barnett, Michael Ervin, Lee Bradley and Donnie Helmer.
