Apaches top Cougars

MONROE—The Glenbrook Apaches won the championship in the River Oaks Tournament in Monroe over the weekend.

In Saturday's Championship Game, the Apaches beat the Franklin Academy Cougars, 73-68.

"It was a big win for us," Apache head coach Todd Spurlock said. "We were kind of dead-legged at the end, we had played four games in five days and it kind of took a toll on us. But we played well enough to win."

Cade Spurlock, who led the team with 25 points, turned in a big defensive play to seal the win. With under a minute to play, Spurlock blocked a three-point attempt by Franklin to close out the win.

In addition to Spurlock's 25 points, Maurice Moore scored 21 points and Connor Copeland scored eight. Jalen Patterson added six points.

Glenbrook beat Claiborne Academy, 66-62 on Friday night.

Patterson had a big game as he scored 35 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead the team. Moore dropped in 12 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had three steals and three blocks. Spurlock added nine points, five rebounds and six assists and Regan Edwards scored six points and had eight rebounds. Copeland added four points and eight boards.

"The scoring was kind of spread out for us, which was good," Spurlock said. "Different kids steps up big and led us in scoring different games. We had a good tournament and I'm proud of the kids and the way they came out and played hard."

The Apaches are now 9-2 on the season and will play next on Tuesday at Riverfield.
