Rape charge filed

Minden man could face long prison term

Webster Parish District Attorney Schuyler Marvin gave Minden Police the nod to arrest a Minden man for forcible rape last week.

Police Chief Steve Cropper said Det. Heath Balkom, assisted by Off. Danny "Bo" Turner, obtained a warrant, arrested and charged 23-year-old Laquinton Coleman, of the 800 block of Harris Street, after an unidentified victim was reportedly raped in her home.

laquinton_coleman"The victim and Coleman had a past relationship," Cropper said. "They weren't together any more. They may have even had a child together. Coleman asked her if they could meet and talk, which they did, but then he refused to leave and wanted to have sex with her."

Cropper said when the victim refused, Coleman forced her into the bedroom and raped her.

If the case goes to trial and Coleman is convicted, according to La. revised statues, he could be imprisoned at hard labor for not less than five years or more than 40 years. At least two years would be without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
