Two hundred years in the making, Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne has announced the Louisiana Bicentennial program for educators.
Representatives from the Webster Parish School System, including Superintendent Steve Dozier, school board president Johnnye Kennon and Staff Development Facilitator Michelle Finley, attended the conference recently where Dardenne introduced the program.
The Louisiana Bicentennial Commission, chaired by retired Lt. Gen. Russell Honoré, has developed an all-inclusive Louisiana statehood curriculum, which is accessible to teachers throughout the state.
Copies of 200 Years in the Making: Bicentennial Desk Reference for Educators were given to representatives of each Louisiana public school system as well as made available to private schools and home-school associations.
Webster Parish Louisiana History teachers will receive bags with the curriculum desk reference, posters, and other materials to use in their classrooms.
The curriculum desk reference includes lesson plans and projects closely aligned to the Louisiana Department of Education's grade level expectations.
Curriculum resources can be downloaded at http://www.louisianabicentennial2012.com/page.php?page=Education-Resouces.
The Bicentennial Commission's Education Committee is holding many teacher workshops across Louisiana to help teachers integrate the resources into the classroom.
