The heat is on a Minden man who stole two air conditioning window units and made gifts of them to family members.

Willie "Bubba" Iverson, 52, has been charged with felony theft by Minden Police for breaking into a rental property on Homer Road and taking the two units.

According to Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper, a tipster called a Crimestoppers number in Ruston and reported to the police department there that he knew Iverson had stolen the units.

"I don't know why this person called Ruston, unless he was concerned about his identity," Cropper said. "But he knew Iverson, knew the house had been broken into and even knew the name of Iverson's daughter, who had been given one of the units."

Cropper said officers made contact with the owner of the rental property, who checked the house and verified the units were missing.

"Det. Heath Balkom and Det. Chris Cheatham made contact with Bubba at his residence and advised him of his rights," Cropper said. "They began questioning him about the units, and Bubba admitted he took the units and gave one to his daughter and one to his mother."

The chief said officers contacted Iverson's relatives, and the units were returned to the owner.
