Glenbrook junior, Heather Stahl, will be heading to Future Business Leaders of Americas (FBLA) Nationals in Anaheim, California in June. Stahl, who is also president of the FBLA chapter at Glenbrook, won first place in Hospitality Management at the state level.

Jenny French, FBLA Adviser and seventh and eighth grade English teacher at Glenbrook, believes that Stahl is "very orderly, structured, mature and responsible." As a first time FBLA Adviser at Glenbrook, French said she is very proud of Stahl's accomplishment.

"They were competing with students throughout the state," French said.

Stahl may only be 16 but she has her goals set high. She believes that everyone should have a business sense and wants to pursue a degree in architecture at Louisiana State University (LSU) upon graduating from Glenbrook and is also interested in pursuing a degree in business and accounting at LSU.

"Nationals is the highest honor in FBLA," Stahl said.

Dr. Naomi Coyle shares Stahl's excitement.

"It's a big honor to go to nationals, especially for a school this size," said Coyle. " We are real pleased. We are competing against larger schools. We had two to place at state and one at nationals."

She explained that Glenbrook students competed against approximately 600 other students at the state level in Lafayette last month.

"It opens the door for colleges," Coyle said. "It is a great thing to put on to a college application."

"The end goal is that they (students) be well-rounded," continued Coyle.

Coyle believes the students are able to take what they have learned in class and apply it in a real-world sense.

Stahl and partner, Austin Snider, also placed fifth as a team at the state level in entrepreneurship. Snider, 17, who is a junior at Glenbrook is interested in pursuing a degree at LSU in accounting or orthodontics. Snider also believes it is beneficial for everyone to have a business background.
