Warriors fall to Trojans

SIBLEY — The Lakeside Warriors dropped to 0-3 in District 2-2A play, as they lost to the Ferriday Trojans, 49-39, Friday night.

"It was a pretty close game all the way through," Lakeside head coach Jason Gould said. "It was close up until the fourth quarter when the basket just closed up on us. We just couldn't put the ball in the basket."

Ferriday held a one-point lead after the first quarter, and led 27-22 at the half. Lakeside out-scored the Trojans, 12-11, in the third quarter to cut the lead to 38-34 going into the fourth quarter. But the Warriors were held to just five points in the final period, while Ferriday scored 11 to make the final, 49-39.

"I thought the kids played hard and had really good focus," Gould said. "We were already down one starter before the game even started, and then Jamarion Teal got injured in the first quarter. So we ended up playing without two starters for most of the game."

Despite the loss of two starters, Gould said his team played well.

"We had some guys come off the bench and step up," he said. "We played well, especially on defense, but we just couldn't get over the hump."

Frankie Miles led the Warriors with 12 points and six rebounds, and Davian Whiting added nine points. Nyles Moore pulled down seven boards, and had five points. Darryl Moore and Teal each had four points and Clayton Festavan had three. Ahmad Bishop added two.

The Warriors will try to bounce back this Tuesday night at home against Homer.

"Homer is one of the two best teams in our district," Gould said. 'So it's going to be an uphill battle for us. But we'll go out there and see what we can do. We hope to see a good crowd out there supporting us."
