Boxer-less boyfriend arrested

Kenneth CrawfordWearing only the shirt on his back, a former Minden resident escaped his girlfriend's bedroom two years ago, only to be captured last weekend in Greeley, Colorado.

Kenneth Crawford, Sr., 27, of the 2100 block of O Street, Greeley, is charged with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said a complaint was filed against Crawford by his 15-year-old girlfriend's mother and stepfather on March 31, 2011.

"They called the police department and said they felt like their teen-age daughter was having some type of sexual relations with someone they had not identified," Cropper said. "The night before they were at home and the stepfather heard noises coming from the juvenile's bedroom."

According to the report, when the stepfather entered the girl's bedroom, she was alone but a window was open.

The girl reportedly admitted to her stepfather that a boy had been in her room.

"Officers talked to her and she admitted to having a relationship with a boy but refused to identify him," said the chief. "While officers were there, they got a call from Crawford's grandmother indicating she had seen him running through the neighborhood and wanted to know what was going on."

Cropper said the teen's sister discovered a pair of men's sneakers, blue jeans and boxer shorts in the bedroom.

"After the clothing was located, the juvenile admitted the man was Crawford," Cropper said. "Det. Chris Cheatham took the case and submitted evidence for DNA testing, which confirmed Crawford."

A warrant was obtained for Crawford, but when detectives tried to locate him, they learned he was in Colorado.

"We put him in NCIC (National Crime Information Center), and about a week ago, we received notification out of Weld County, Colorado that they had Crawford in custody," Cropper said.

"They arrested him on our warrants and he waived extradition."

On March 24, Crawford was returned to Minden by Louisiana Prisoner Transport, booked at the Minden Police Department and transferred to  Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center, where he is being held under a $25,000 bond.
