Crimson Tide tourney to start on Thursday
SHREVEPORT — The Minden Crimson Tide baseball team improved to 3-2 with a 7-1 win over Loyola on Tuesday.
The Tide got a big game on the mound from McCaul Lacobee and took advantage of six Loyola errors to get the win.
Lacobee scattered three hits over five innings as he shut out the Flyers over six innings. He also struck out seven batters. Austin Sumner pitched the final two innings for the save.
The Tide scored two runs in the top of the second inning, and then added another in the third. Minden then added four more in the fifth. Loyola scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Hutton Leppert led off the second inning with a walk, and Sumner followed with a sac bunt, which moved Jacob Johnson (running for Leppert) to second. Johnson then moved to third on a Carson Bolyer single. After an out, Johnson scored on a passed ball to give the Tide an early lead, and Bolyer also scored on an error by the Loyola catcher.
Leading 2-0, the Tide scored once in the third on a RBI-double by Sumner, scoring Thomas Pevy who had singled earlier in the inning.
Minden plated four runs in the fifth. The Tide had the bases loaded on an error, a double by Turner Francis and a Leppert walk. Two runs scored on an error by the Loyola shortstop, and then two more runs scored on Loyola errors.
Francis and Sumner both doubled and Corey DeMoss, Bolyer and Pevy all added singles.
The Tide will be back in action later this week as they host their annual Minden High School Invitational. The tournament starts Thursday, and the Tide's first game will be Friday night against Bastrop.
