BATON ROUGE (AP) — The Lakeside wrestling team traveled to Baton Rouge over the weekend to take part in the Brusly Invitational.
Out of the 33 teams in attendance, the Warriors finished 10th, with two wrestlers taking top four finishes.
"We did very well," Warrior assistant coach Ryan Luna said. "We did really well down there, especially for a second-year program."
Luna and head coach Mike Welch took five wrestlers to the meet, which featured more than 250 wrestlers.
The Warriors had two wrestlers finish high the standings. Junior Cameron Corley finished second in his weight bracket, and Thomas Lambert finished fourth.
"Both of those guys did very well," Luna said. "And our other guys did well also."
John Watson finished the meet with a 3-2 record, just one win away from placing. Watson, a seventh-grader, wrestled against high school wrestlers.
Sophomore Luke Griffith went 2-2 and fellow sophomore Riley Smith finished 1-2.
"This meet is one of the toughest in the state," Luna said. "And I thought we represented North Louisiana very well. Most teams had 14 wrestlers on their rosters, and we only took five kids. So we finished 10th with less than half the guys the other teams had."
