Sherman John Allen, 95, passed away on April 22, 201l in Minden.
He was born July 12, 1915 in Haynesville to parents, Martha Ann Harper and George A. Allen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Verbie Allen, Theron “Toots” Allen, Felton “Sonny” Allen, Sybil Baldwin and former wife, Corrine Taylor Allen all of Minden.
Survivors include children, Loretta Allen Sharpling and husband, William T. “T-Bone” Sharpling and Sherman Wayne Allen of Minden; former daughter-in-law, Beverly Shattuck Allen of Memphis, Tennessee; five granddaughters and their families, Terri and Robert Billeck of Conway, Arkansas, Susan and Chuck Haynes of Mesquite, Texas, Kelly Parker of Platte City, Missouri, Dana Allen-Khmous and Donna Allen-Khmous of Memphis; 11 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Sherman was a hard-working man who started at a very young age at the family dairy. He later went into construction and then had a career at Texas Eastern Products Pipeline where he retired in El Dorado, Arkansas.
He was a member of the Minden Chapter Masonic Lodge and served as captain with the Union County Mounted Patrol.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman, loving hunting and fishing. His friends and family looked forward to summer because of his green thumb in his garden, and he will always be remembered for his ability to barbeque and his BBQ sauce recipe.
Funeral services for Sherman will be held today (Monday, April 25, 2011) at 2 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden. Officiating will be the
Rev. Bill Crider and the Rev. Bill Ichter. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory in Minden.
The family received friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
