Brown retires after 20 years in Army

vet111Staff Sergeant Brown is a native of Heflin and a graduate of Sibley High School. After graduation he entered the Marine Corps and attended Basic Training in August 1992 at Camp Pendleton, California.

His initial assignment was as a Field Radio Operator, with the 3rd Marine Corps Expeditionary Command, Okinawa, Japan. After returning stateside, he was assigned to 1st Surveillance Reconnaissance Intelligence Group, 9th Communication Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California.

He entered the United States Army in April, 1997 and was assigned to B Co, 32nd Signal Battalion, Darmstadt Germany. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I and II. He also deployed to Kosovo in support of Task Force Hawk.

He was next assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Signal Brigade, Camp Yongson, Korea. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III. He was next assigned to 1-22, 2nd BCT, Signal Brigade, Ft. Carson, Colorado and Camp Red Cloud, Korea.

After returning stateside, he was assigned to C Co, 3rd BCT, 4ID, Ft. Hood, Texas. He is currently assigned to United States Army Garrison, Ft. Hood, Texas.

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3rd award), and the Army Achievement Medal.

SSG Brown has two daughters, Abriana Wolfgram and Asha Kenierm. He is accompanied by his dad and step-mom, Sam and Felicia Brown, and mother, Mary Brown.
