The 5th annual Minden St. Jude 5k/10k race was an overwhelming success according to the race committee, which met earlier this month to report on the gains made by the racers – both fiscally and physically.
The race, which was held during the auction on Saturday, February 2 raised $17,000 and exceeded goals for participants.
"We had 668 people register for this years race, which surpassed the 600 we were hoping for," said Jennifer Thomas, who serves on the race committee. "All the race participants and volunteers helped to make this race a huge success once again.
"After a rainy race day last year, the weather couldn't have been any better this year," she continued. "Seeing all those people show up to support St. Jude, not just from Minden, but also Shreveport, Bossier, Ruston, Magnolia just to name a few, is amazing."
Thompson said in addition to race participants and volunteers, the event would not be possible or as successful without support from businesses.
"Our race sponsors are amazing," Thompson said. "Their money and support is what makes this race possible. Because of everyone's donations of money and time, we were able to contribute $17,000 this year for the children at St. Jude."
The overall winners are Overall women 5k - Amelia Christy, of Minden finished the Women's 5K in 22:44, Nathan Hall, of Monroe, finished the Men's 5K in 18:07, Renn Ardoin, of Minden, finished the Women's 10K in 44:54 and Michael Anderson, of Monroe, completed the Men's 10K in 33:45.
