Lakeside Warriors fall to Sterlington

Plays Class 2A’s #5 team right down to the wire

SIBLEY — The Lakeside Warriors knew they had their hands full Tuesday night, as they were hosting the fifth-ranked 2A team, the Sterlington Panthers.

But the Warriors (3-18, 0-8) fought the Panthers all the way to the end, before losing, 53-41.

"I'm really proud of my kids," Lakeside head coach Jason Gould said. "We played them very tough, we contested shots, we scrapped and played right with them."

Sterlington led 11-7 at the end of the first quarter, and 24-16 at the half. The Panthers then took a 36-26 lead into the fourth quarter, where they out-scored the Warriors, 17-15.

"Sterlington missed a lot of shots," Gould said. "Which is kind of uncharacteristic of them, because they are a good shooting team. But I'd like to think a lot of those missed shots had a lot to do with our defense."

Sterlington was a little off on offense, but unfortunately so were the Warriors.

"We did not take advantage of the opportunities given to us," Gould said. "We missed too many lay-ups, and a number of shots that we missed were close and we should have made them. But we just didn't put the ball in the hole. Otherwise, we scrapped, we played hard and I was proud of them."

Davian Whiting led the Warriors with 12 points and Nyles Moore added 11 points and nine rebounds. Maurice Moore dropped in nine points and six rebounds.

"Davian had three big three-pointers in the fourth quarter to keep us close," Gould said. "And Nyles had another double figure night and had a big third quarter to get us going."
