Glenbrook holds Alumni Game under the lights

Twenty five years after the Chicago Cubs installed lights at Wrigley Field, the Glenbrook Apaches did the same to their baseball field. And to break in Apache Stadium under the lights, the Apaches invited a number of former players to face the current team in a Apaches/Alumni Game.

"This is something we hope that becomes a tradition," Apache coach Jonathan Hardy said. "It was the first game under the lights for our current team, and it gave some of our former players a chance to do the same. And it was some good competition for our team, they got to play against some of the players they grew up watching."

Former players Preston Wise, Blake Branch, Dewey Kendrick, Logan Hollingsworth, Austin Palmier, Chase Wentz, Hunter Cavalier, Caydan Maloney and Minden's Riley Hollingsworth were among the alumni taking part.

The Alumni took an early 2-0 lead as Cavalier and Wentz scored in the top of the first. Connor Clark cut the lead in bottom half for the Current Apaches with an RBI-double in the bottom of the inning.

The Alumni built up a 6-1 lead on RBIs by Cavalier, Riley Hollingsworth, Wentz and Wise.

In the fourth, the Current Apaches scored four runs on a RBI-single by Clay Simonton, a two-run double by Braden Dickson and a passed ball. They then took a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the fifth on RBIs from Dickson and Colt Wilson.

Wise tied it up in the top of the sixth with a RBI-single, and the Palmier hit a two-run home run to push the Alumni lead to 9-7.

But the Current Apaches pulled out the 10-9 win with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, two coming on RBIs from Jacob White and Connor Clark.

"It was a really great time," Hardy said. "It was good to get the first game under the lights out of the way, and hopefully this will start a tradition for us."
