Making History at Press Awards

I don't write columns much any more. It takes a lot of time, thought and reflection, a subject about which the writer is compassionate – and often a real sense of humor. I leave that to my husband, Pat, who is the real journalist in our family.

This is a subject for which I feel all those things, plus a lot of pride. The newsroom staff of your community newspaper won several awards last weekend at the 2012 Louisiana Press Association Better Newspaper Contest. But the main award – the highest award bestowed on a newsroom is the Editorial Sweepstakes Award. For the first time in the history of the Minden Press-Herald, the newsroom brought that award home.
