In Memory of  a Mayor and a Friend

The news greeted me early Thursday morning via rumor. With a single phone call, rumor turned to fact. And the sad fact was that after two decades, Minden had lost her mayor. And what a loss he was.

My memories of Bill Robertson are many and they are professional and pleasant. He is the only mayor of Minden I have ever known. From my earliest days at the Press-Herald, the mayor has been at City Hall. I covered him during his joys (impressive and resounding reelections, the Recreation Complex, etc). I covered him through his trying times (lawsuits, disputes with city personnel and community members). And I covered him during some of Minden's brightest moments as a community.
