A celebration of life service will be held for Dorothy Ruth Cook on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel. The service will be officiated by Rev. Gevan Spinney of First Baptist Haughton. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
The family will be receiving friends today (Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013) from 5 until 7 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.
Dorothy was an artist in her own time, as she spent her career as a decorator for Tasty Bakery. She worked for Tasty Bakery when it was a family owned business, owned and operated by Mr. Levy. It was later bought out by Brookshire's and she continued to work there until her retirement.
After retirement, she enjoyed making and decorating wedding cakes for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her love for her family and her unwavering faith and love for her Lord and Savior will be her legacy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Gillie Matilda Chandler; her first husband, James D. Walden; and her son, Jimmie D. Walden. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Annie Roach, Bessie Hines, Doris Walden and Eleanor French and brothers, Frank, Jr., L.C. and George Chandler.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Flin L. Cook of Haughton; her loving and devoted daughters, Brenda Thomas and husband Daniel of Springhill and Kay Hooper and husband, Jim of Haughton; grandchildren, Chuck McAllister, Jr. and wife, Jodi of Shreveport, Larry Farmer, Jr. and wife, Vicki of Princeton, Daniel Farmer and wife, Sarah of Sheridan, Arkansas, Alysia Farmer of Tomah Wisconsin, Crystal Walden of Haughton, Justin Love of Scottsville, Arizona, Reed Thomas and wife, Beth of Haughton, Hailey Thomas Allen of Bossier City, Tracie Hooper King and husband, Delbert of Talihina, Oklahoma, Kiley Hooper and wife, Melanie of Haughton and Kelly Hooper and wife, Donna. She has 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her best friend and loving sister, Jean Kruithof of Bossier City; her loving sister, Mary Grace Woodward of Haughton; and her numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Momma as pallbearers are her grandsons, Chuck McAllister, Jr., Larry Farmer, Jr., Daniel Farmer and Reed Thomas; great-grandsons, Austin Harris; nephews, Rocky and Ricky French, Larry Kilgo and Wayne Walden.
Honorary pallbearers are her nephews, Jerry and James Walden, Randy Chandler, James and Scotter Roach and Glenn Woodward.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Haughton or Grace Home in Shreveport.
