Local artist McKenzie Leopold will teach beading classes on May 24 and 28. The styles of beading she will teach include Spiral Weave (also called Spiral Rope) and Flat Bead Crochet.
“This is one of the instant gratification stitches using needle and thread,” Leopold said of the Spiral Weave classes. “Even beginners get beautiful results, and many students finish their bracelet in class. You will leave with printed, illustrated instructions. Once you have learned this basic stitch, the variations are endless.”
Leopold will have several bracelets in class on exhibit. Class fee is $25 and will be held on May 24 from noon to 3 p.m. She will have some spiral rope kits already made up in a variety of colors for $10 each.
For the Flat Bead Crochet class, students must already know the single crochet stitch.
“For those of you who already crochet, this is an instant gratification stitch,” Leopold said. “You are going to love it. You will leave with written instructions and diagrams and a sample swatch a few inches long that you will have made in class.”
This class will be May 28 from 9 a.m. to noon and is limited to 6 students. The fee is $30 and includes enough beads for sample swatches.
“If you would like to learn the basic crochet stitch needed, so you can take this class, call me,” Leopold said. “I will give you a two-hour tutorial for $10.”

Rebecca Tyree is a unique artist, playing far outside the box and looking forward to sharing her art and enthusiasm by offering adult abstract art classes in June. Tyree is known for re-inventing artistic expression through a multitude of materials.
Abstract I and II will include the introduction to basic fundamental of abstract painting, “along with large doses of fun,” Rebecca said. The Abstract art classes will be held on June 11. Abstract I will be from 10-11:30 a.m. and Abstract II will be from noon to 2:30 p.m.
During Abstract I, students will create an original painting using water based acrylic. During Abstract II students will explore the wider possibilities of adding texture, collage effects, washes, etc.
Cost for each abstract class is $25 or $40 for both. Tyree recommends wearing clothes in which to paint and asks that students bring a plastic shoebox with their name on it.
Registration deadline is June 6 and payment must be received upon registration. Supplies are provided.
Tyree will also be offering a Collage Mania class on June 18 from 1-3 p.m. Cost is $30 and registration is due by June 13. Tyree urges students to wear “play clothes” so they are comfortable during the class.
“This is a mind opening art form and so much fun,” Tyree said.
During this class, participants will work with paper, texture, photos, lace ribbon, paint, glitter, found objects or anything else they would like. They can bring copies of photos, documents, old magazines, etc. All supplies are provided.
Tyree will offer a Collage Abstract I class on June 25 from 10-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-2:30 p.m., with a one hour break between the two sessions. Registration deadline is June 20 and the cost is $50.
She has other classes planned for the future, as well.
“A wine glass painting class will be a fun filled hour of basic wine glass painting,” Tyree said. “And during the greeting card class, students will make homemade cards using found objects.”
For each of these classes supplies will be provided. No registration information is available, yet.
