The year 2012 was full of unexpected events that outgoing Minden-South Webster Chamber of Commerce Chairman Sarah Haynes said weren't in her plans.

A changing of the guard was one of those unexpected things as Chamber President and CEO Susan Matamoras exited the position and Jerri de Pingre' took over the reins.

"She (de Pingre') is more than capable of planning events, raising money and doing things first class," Haynes said.

During 2012, Haynes said the chamber added 26 members, a 15 member gain.

"We had 247 at the beginning of January," she said. "By the end of December, we had 262."

The chamber also hosted more than 10 ribbon cuttings, a CNG workshop, a social media workshop, awarded 15 Over 40 and two WEEF grants and now boasts a new website.

Haynes praised outgoing Chamber Champions MBL Bank and President and CEO Jack Byrd for their support throughout the year and Town & Country Health and Rehab was introduced as Chamber Champions for 2013.

Dr. Phillip Rozeman, president and founder of Cardiovascular Consultants, shared his experiences with the business community, saying he did not wish to discuss solving business problems or issues.

"Some of the major problems of our time – education, ethics, health care – can be solved by using the strengths of the business community," Rozeman said. "Businesses can become social entrepreneurs, too, and really change communities."

The 2013 Annual Membership Banquet was catered by Jimmy Hall and Party Express Catering and was served by Minden High School Louisi-Annes.
Greg Lee served as Master of Ceremonies.
