The holes in the mantel tell a story

The holes under the mantel tell a story.

Three holes appear to be the oldest in the bottom of the mantel. These were placed there that first Christmas after we were married in June 1948, and bought our home in October. Those holes were for hooks that held our Christmas stockings.
