Parish teams get playoff positions

Wednesday afternoon the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) released their brackets for the 2011 baseball playoffs.

Six Webster Parish teams will be playing the playoffs that will begin on Saturday. Minden High, Lakeside, Springhill, Sarepta, Shongaloo and Doyline will be attempting to win a baseball state championships in four different classifications.

The Minden Crimson Tide will open the playoffs against a familiar foe, their district rivals from Haughton High School.

The Crimson Tide (12-17) received the #29 seed in the Class 4A bracket, while the Bucs (24-6) come in at #4
Minden and Haughton met in three games this season, with the Bucs taking all three games.

The Lakeside Warriors begin the Class 2A playoffs with a home game against North Caddo.

Lakeside (22-10) is the #5 seed in Class 2A, while North Caddo (14-10) is the #28 seed.

The two teams met twice this season, with Lakeside winning the first game, 10-0 and the second, 15-4.

Lakeside’s #5 seed is the highest seed of all the Webster Parish playoff teams.

The Springhill Lumberjacks will travel to Opelousas to take on Opelousas Catholic.

The Lumberjacks (15-15) claimed the #20 seed in Class 2A, while the Vikings took the #13 seed.

The Sarepta Hornets will travel to Franklin to take on Hanson Memorial in a first round Class 1A game.

The Hornets (21-8) go into the game as the #17 seed in Class 1A, and Hanson Memorial comes in one notch higher at #16.

The Shongaloo Tigers cap an outstanding 2011 season as they will host Holden in a first round Class B game.

The Tigers (18-7) are the #12 seed, while the Rockets are the #21 seed.

The Doyline Panthers are in the midst of a rebuilding year, but made the playoffs nonetheless and will travel to Forest to take on Forest High School.

The Panthers enter the Class B playoffs as the #23 seed, and the Bulldogs come in at #10.
