First night action from the Bistineau Classic

SIBLEY — The Lakeside Bistineau Classic got off to a quick start Thursday.

Northwood beat Haughton in the first game, Sterlington topped Minden in Game 2 and the Lakeside fell to Sterlington in the nightcap.
Sterlington 20, Lakeside 10

"We're a young team and things kind of got out of hand," Lakeside head coach Bob Gray said. "Our kids made an some adjustments as the game went along and kept from getting ten-runned, so we managed some measure of pride. We just need to figure out our identity and figure out how we have to play to beat good teams."

Sterlington jumped out on Lakeside early, with eight runs in the first three innings. But the Warriors fought back and competed the rest of the way.
Coulson White led the Warriors with a four-for-five day at the plate. He had three singles, a double and two RBIs.

Cameron Corley singled twice and drove in two runs and Chase Woodall doubled twice and drove in a run. Luke Griffith doubled and singled and drove in a run, and Thomas Lambert and Cameron Gray both singled.

Sterlington's bats started hot again in the nightcap, as they led Minden 3-0 going into the bottom of the second, when Sawyer Stephens homered to cut the lead to 3-1. But that was all the Tide's offense could muster against Sterlington starter Ross Lambert in the 7-1 loss.

Stephens also took the mound for the Tide and took the loss despite 6 2/3 strong innings. He scattered seven hits and struck out eight.

In addition to Stephens' solo home run, Turner Francis and Caleb Jones each singled twice and Austin Sumner added a single.

The tournament will continue today and run through tomorrow.
