Funeral Services for Leon Snyder, 82, will be held Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden. Officiating will be the Rev. Jimmy West assisted by Jack Tharpe. Interment will follow at Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sibley. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012).
Leon was born July 8, 1929 in Haynesville and entered into rest Feb. 14, 2012 in Minden.
He served in the United States Army in Korea, played baseball for Northwestern State University and was past member of Sibley City Council.
In 1956 he started his career at Tioga High School until he retired in 1984. While at Tioga he started their baseball and track team and coached basketball and in 1969 was assistant principal until his retirement.
His sisters, Frances Lary and Jeanne Muriot preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Joe Anne Alexander Snyder of Sibley; nephews, Dennis Lary and wife, Joy of Minden, Jerry Watson and wife Rhonda of Bossier City, Mickey Watson and wife, Niki of Minden, Rickey Watson and wife, Jana of Minden and Terry Watson of Bossier City; nieces, Tracy Woods of Dixie Inn and Linda Kall and husband, Frank of Rockville, Maryland; and a number of great-nieces, nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Don Tharpe, Terry Watson, Mickey Watson, Rickey Watson, Dennis Lary and Lory White. Honorary pallbearers George Tharpe and Robert A. White.
