Funeral services for James Prentice Johnson, 93, a native of Arcadia and a resident of Minden, will be held Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden. Officiating will be the Rev. John Cannon assisted by the Rev. Prentis Ray Gandy.
Interment will follow at Mt. Mariah Cemetery in Arcadia. The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Prentice was born Jan. 13, 1919, in Arcadia and entered into rest March 16, 2012, in Buffalo, Texas.
He was a World War II veteran, a 50-plus-year member and Past Master of the Masons and long-time chaplain of the Minden Masonic Lodge # 51 F. & A.M. He also served as Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. He retired from Gulf Oil in 1981 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Tensie Johnson; parents, James Harvey and Emma Beard Johnson; and several siblings.
He is survived by his sons, James Ronnie Johnson and wife, Barbara of Buffalo, Texas and Richard Wayne Johnson and wife, Linda of Paincourtville; one brother, Chester (C.L.) Johnson; one sister, Barbara Gandy; five granddaughters, Jamie McIntyre, Tobie Moser, Shawn Gustafson, Jody Zatorski and Stacey Vincent; and nine great-grandchildren.
Prentice was a cherished patriarch of his family, respected member of the community and dear friend to many.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Woodard, Larry Joe Penix, Robby Byrd, Mark Johnson, Tommy Watson, Ryan Gustafson and Darren Vincent.
