Gubernatorial candidate talks budget at luncheon

State Rep. John Bel Edwards had some good news and some bad news about the $24.6 billion budget passed by the legislature in its session which ended in June.

"The good news is we passed a budget," Edwards told members of the Minden Lions Club Thursday. "The bad news, our economists say next year if revenue comes in as projected, we face a $991 million shortfall."
Edwards, who has announced his intentions to run for governor in 2015, said the legislature faced several issues while putting together a budget package.
