Fraudulent prescription leads to arrest

A Texas woman is in a Webster Parish jail after trying to obtain a prescription for Lortab by fraud at a local pharmacy.

Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said Karen Sue Hinton, 32, of Los Robles, Texas, was arrested earlier this week and charged with obtaining CDS Sch. III (Lortab) by fraud and as a fugitive from the Brazos County Sheriff's Office.

"Our narcotics officers received a phone call from a local pharmacy in regard to this woman who had come in to have a prescription filled for Lortab on a doctor out in Texas," Cropper said. "She had come in a couple of times before, and the pharmacist had become suspicious."

Cropper said when the pharmacist contacted the doctor in Texas, he told the pharmacist that he had not written this particular person a prescription for Lortab.

"He said if she had it in his name, then it was forged and fraudulent," Cropper said.

Minden narcotics officers reportedly told the pharmacist the next time Hinton came into the pharmacy to have a prescription filled, to call the police department.

"That's what happened," Cropper said. "The officers told the pharmacist to stall her a bit and then fill the prescription."

Once the prescription was filled, but before Hinton left the store, she was taken into custody by Capt. Marvin Garret, Lt. Tim Morris and Off. Shawn Henderson.

"Once they arrested her, they found out she has warrants out of Brazos County and was wanted by the sheriff's office there for the same thing," Cropper said.
