Alven Lee Atkins Cole

Funeral Services for Mrs. Alven Lee Atkins Cole, 90, will be held Saturday, April 30, 2011, at 1 p.m. at St. Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. B. J. Martin, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Sheppard Street Cemetery.

Alven Lee Cole was born Jan. 2, 1921 to the late Valdo Atkins, Sr. and Mattie Hampton Atkins in Grambling. She was reared in Arcadia.

On Oct.12, 1940, Alven Lee united in holy matrimony to Arcoley Cole who preceded her in death in Dec.16, 2003. To this union, one daughter, Arlinda Cole, was born.

Alven Lee Atkins Cole departed this earthly life on April 22, 2011 in Shreveport. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; special niece she reared as a daughter, TessieHunter; and her siblings.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Arlinda Cole of Minden,; grandchildren, Antoine Cole of Dallas, Texas and Antonio Cole of Minden; special grandchildren from daughter she reared, Sherry Hunter of Shreveport and Paula Hunter of Houston, Texas; great-grandchild, Travion Sanders of Minden; special great-grandchildren, Brandon Allums, Iraq, Phylisia Allums of South Dakota and Alton Washington II of Shreveport; special great-grea-grandchild, Kalil Allums of South Dakota; goddaughters, Diane Smith and Mary Helen Terrell; bonus children, John W. Alstork, Gloria Alstork, Ivory J. Qualls and Marie Qualls; sister-in-law, Leother Atkins of Shreveport; and a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Mrs. Geraldine Combs, Mrs. Bessie Heard, Ella Mae Dawson and Mrs. Lenora Odom; and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 29 in the chapel of Kennon's Mortuary from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. with family hour from 6 until 7 p.m. Services are entrusted to Kennon's Mortuary. Email condolences may be sent to kennonsmortuary@suddenlink.net.
