Mother jailed on abuse charges

Rebecca_StrainA mother is in trouble with law enforcement and Child Protective Services for allegedly inflicting bruises on her two-year-old child during a weekend visit.

Rebecca Strain, 25, of the 1000 block of Tillman Drive, is charged with cruelty to a juvenile.

Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said the male child was in his father's custody when, around Thanksgiving, he was taken to the mother's residence to visit.

"When the father picked up the child on December 2, he noticed bruises on the child's forehead and arm, as well as a bite mark on the child's left leg," Cropper said. "The father sent his son to day care the following day and the caretaker, who observed the bruising, called CPS."

Reportedly, the father informed CPS the bruises were a result of a weekend visit with Strain, the child's mother.

"CPS opened an investigation and as a result of their investigation, they advised the father to come to the police department and file a complaint against Strain," Cropper said. "After investigators looked into the matter, an arrest warrant was obtained."

On February 7, Lt. Dan Weaver, Det. Chris Cheatham and Sgt. Wayne Young made contact with Strain at her residence. She reportedly was advised of her Miranda Rights and placed under arrest.

She was taken to the Minden Police Department, booked and transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center where she is being held on a $20,000 bond.

"The father of the child has since secured a protective order against the mother, keeping her away from the child," Cropper said.
