SIBLEY—It was an unhappy homecoming for the Lakeside Warriors, as they fell 40-0 to Homer Friday night in front of their returning alumni.
The Pelicans improved to 6-2 with the win while the Warriors fell to 3-5.
The Warriors have been fighting injuries all season and were able to dress just 18 players for the game.
"It's been tough," Lakeside head coach Joey Pesses said. "When someone is out, you have to move someone else into that position, and then someone else into that other position. Multiply that by five or six times and you have a number of kids playing new spots."
But despite the setbacks, Pesses said his team has not given up.
"That's one thing I can say, the kids are still playing hard," he said. "Sometimes you have to take some lumps, and we've taken some this year, but hopefully this will benefit us down the road."
Lakeside running back Chris Lewis led the Warriors' offense with 92 yards rushing and 58 yards receiving.
