RAYVILLE —The Glenbrook junior high girls track team recently won the District 7-A championship meet held at Riverfield Academy in Rayville, LA.

The Lady Apaches won the meet by outlasting the host Lady Raiders 68-51 points. After the field events, the Lady Apaches trailed Central School (Grand Cane) by two points and they were only ahead by 1 point with five events remaining. However, Glenbrook picked up a win in the 1600m run and second place finishes in the 400m, 800m, and 200m runs to pull away for the championship.

"I'm just so lucky to get to work with such outstanding young ladies on a daily basis," said head coach Gary Harris. "These kids work hard and do whatever they need to do to help the team win. I moved a lot of girls around and into events that they hadn't had much practice in so that we could try and score points in every event. And they did that with no complaining and competed. I was really surprised how close it was with only a few events to go. There were four schools within three points of each other. Our girls really gutted it out and battled to pull away. For a lot of these girls, they've now won district titles in basketball and now track. That sets a solid foundation of success to move forward to their high school years."

Kathy Driskill won first place in the high jump with a jump of 4'4", while Catherine Willis won the 300m hurdles with a time of 58.65 seconds. Emma Mayfield won first place in the 1600m run with a time of 7:32.56 seconds.

Picking up second place finishes for the Lady Apaches were Carsin Spurlock (11'4" in the long jump and 30.28 in the 200m Dash), Kennedy Ayres (1:02.13 in the 300m hurdles), Catherine Willis (14.53 in the 100m Dash), Kathy Driskill (1:17 in the 400m Dash), and Emma Mayfield (3:11 in the 800m run). The 400m Relay team of Carsin Spurlock, Madison Harris, Madison Tanner and Megan Sims won second place with a time of 59.71 seconds.

Third place finishes were Madison Tanner (24'6" in the shot put) and Kelly Murph (1:20 in the 400m Dash).

Fourth place finishers were Kennedy Ayres in the high jump, Tiffany Moseley in the shot put, Kara Bryce in the triple jump, Madison Harris in the 100m hurdles, Megan Sims in the 100m Dash and 200m Dash, and Jessica Mangrum in the 800m run.

Picking up points by finishing in fifth place were Kate Marvin (long jump) and Kennedy Ayres (100m hurdles).
