BATON ROUGE — The Doyline Lady Panthers track team finished seventh in the Class B State Track Meet in Baton Rouge.
The seventh-place finish could have been even better, but the Lady Panthers were disqualified in the 4X400 Relay.
The Lady Panthers, who would have finished third in the race, were disqualified as their final runner fell as she crossed the finish line. She was then judged to have impeded the path of the fourth place finisher, and therefor was disqualified.
"It was a good day performance-wise," said Lady Panther coach Michael Normand. "But the DQ was unfortunate, it knocked from fourth place to seventh."
The Lady Panthers had four top three finishers.
Shelby Waln finished second in the shot put with a throw of 35'3". Chantrell Johnson finished second in the 800m (2:36) and third in the long jump (15'5"). Shanelle Allen took third place in both the 100 and 200 meters.
The Lady Panthers are a young team and expect to be back in the State Meet next year.
"The goal for these girls in the next couple of years is to win a State Championship," Normand said. "I brought nine girls down here, three eighth-graders, three freshmen and three sophomores, so we bring everybody back next year and we'll take another shot at it.
