The Minden Lady Tiders jumped out to an early lead Wednesday against Ringgold and were never in danger of losing as they cruised to a 52-25 victory.
The win was the nightcap in the first day of action at the 21st annual Edward Jones Investments Holiday Classic held at Minden High.
Lady Tiders coach Jacob Brown was very pleased with his team's effort.
"We jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first quarter and then outscored them 21-10 in the second quarter," Brown said. "We took at 36-12 lead into the half and were doing a very good job of moving the ball around."
Brown said Ringgold stayed in a zone defense and his girls were very patient to find good shots.
"We didn't force bad shots," he said. "We moved the ball around and found good looks at the basket."
While the offense was being patient, the Lady Tider defense was suffocating as they forced 20 turnovers on that side of the ball.
"The pressure we put on them was key," Brown said. "It allowed the girls to get into the flow of the game and lead to the good things we did on offense."
Antavia Sterling led the way for Minden with a big second quarter.
"She had a stretch where she hit some big shots," Brown said. "She's a young good shooter, one we like to get the ball to. She can really get on a streak and knock down some big shots, which is just what she did last night."
Sterling hit several three pointers late in the second quarter that helped Minden extend its lead.
"Such a good night will help her confidence as well," the coach said.
Other key performers for Minden included Metosha Gill, Rachel Shine and Miranda Fisher.
"Metosha Gill continues to improve and do a great job at point guard," Brown said. "One thing about her is she is going to play hard every night. She is going to lay it out on floor. Even if she makes mistakes she does it with 100 percent effort, and I can live with that."
Next up for the Lady Tiders is a 7 p.m. game tonight against Haynesville. Coach Brown asks that the community come out and support the Lady Tiders as they try to win the tournament.
