Tide wins, cranks up tempo

The Minden Crimson Tide used a frenetic, up-tempo pace to defeat Calvary by nine points during Monday night's local high school basketball action.

"We have had some guys that decided they didn't want to be a part of us, so we've gotten smaller than we already were," Tide head coach Alan Shaw said of his team's 78-69 victory.

To answer the lack of size, Shaw has changed his team's gameplan and moved to a fast-paced, high pressure scheme.

"We were all over the floor," he said. "It looks like a mad scramble out there, and for us the more disorganized the better."

Shaw said his team has to keep opponents out of a half court set.

"We just aren't big enough to compete if they get us down in a half court set because of our size," he said. "So we are just trying to make the game a lot faster and a lot more up-tempo."

Overall, the coach said the shift worked well.

"We created turnovers and got some easy shots and easy looks at the basket," he said.

Leading scorers for Minden were Dominique Walker with 22, Anthony Redd with 17, Trey Hawkins with 15 and Trey Thornton with 10.

Minden will next play during the Holiday Classic. Their game is set for Thursday at 8:30 in the new gym.
