HAUGHTON—The Lakeside Warriors concluded their stay in the Haughton Jack Clayton Invitational Tournament with a 45-35 win over Benton High in the Consolation Finals on Saturday. On Friday, the Warriors defeated Minden High School, 46-42.
Lakeside 45, Benton 35
In the consolation finals, Lakeside led early and for most of the game, before Benton closed the gap in the fourth quarter. But the Warriors held on to win.
"We did a pretty good job of coming out and running our offense early," Lakeside head coach jason Gould said. "We pretty much controlled the game the entire time."
Lakeside led 17-10 at the end of the first quarter, and out-scored Benton just 4-3 in the second. The Warriors out-scored the Tigers 13-5 in the third, while Benton took the fourth quarter, 17-11.
"We did struggle to score in the second quarter, but luckily we did a good job of keeping them from scoring as well," Gould said. "We came out in the third quarter and did some good things and pulled out the game."
T.J. Carpenter led the Warriors with a game-high 25 points and added six rebounds. Five other Warriors each scored four points.
"I'm real proud of T.J., especially in the last two games," Gould said. "He's done a good job of leading our team. We didn't have a lot of points from the rest of the team, but we did spread it out, so that's shows that we're getting everybody involved and that's a good thing."
Lakeside 46, Minden 42
Friday afternoon, the Warriors played parish rivals Minden High in an elimination game. The game was close through out the first half, but Lakeside out-scored Minden 21-19 in the second half to get the win.
"It was a low-scoring game, not a lot of offense on either side," Gould said. "But I thought defensively we didn't do too bad. We tried to control the ball on offense. I think it was just a good game between two Webster Parish rivals. We just happened to come away with the win this time."
Carpenter led the warriors with 19 points and 13 rebounds and Taurus Erving added 10 points. Kyle Allums dropped in seven.
D.J. Walker led the Tide with 17 points and Jared Johnson scored 13. Tray Hawkins added five.
BOSSIER-The Lakeside Lady Warriors played two games this weekend in the Bossier Lady Kats Invitational, including the Consolation Bracket Finals.
The Lady Warriors beat Haughton, 42-40 in overtime on Friday, and then lost to Booker T. Washington, 41-33 on Saturday in the Consolation Finals.
BTW 41, Lakeside 33
In the Consolation Finals, the Lady Warriors fell behind 9-4 in the first quarter and trailed BTW 27-10 at halftime. Lakeside cut into the lead in the third quarter by out-scoring BTW 13-6 in the third quarter, and trailed 33-23 going into the fourth quarter. Lakeside took the fourth quarter 10-8, but it wasn't enough as BTW took the 41-33 win.
Tamera Douglas led the Lady Warriors with 10 points and Zakariah Jenkins added nine. Shanae Collins scored eight points and Jessica Bridges added four. Falon Miles scored two.
Lakeside 42, Haughton 40 OT
The two teams were tied at 14-14 at the half, and the Lady Warriors out-scored the Lady Bucs, 10-6 to take a 24-20 lead going into the fourth quarter. the Lady Bucs then out-scored Lakeside 16-12 to force overtime. Lakeside then out-scored Haughton, 6-4 in the extra period to take the 42-40 win.
Douglas led the Lady Warriors with 13 points and Miles added 14. Collins scored six points and Jenkins added five.
