Here is a desirable mandate for each one of us. "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage" Galatians 5:1. Sounds like a good idea, doesn't it? What are we liberated from? One could think that the bondage is to circumcision (see verses 2, 3) or to law keeping in general, but verse 4 holds the key. "Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace." If we are seeking to be justified by our own perfect keeping of the law, we will fail. Not one of us can perfectly keep the law. As we're told in Romans 3:20 "by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight." The defect is not in the law but in our ability to keep it. We must look to the One who did perfectly obey God's law of love.
