Getting the Gurken prize is focus of contest
Getting the Gurken prize is the focus of picklers participating in Fasching's second annual Gurken (pickle) contest, which will be held Saturday, November 10 at Minden City Art Works, 701 Main Street.
"Folk legend says that Germans would put pickles on their Christmas trees as ornaments and turn it into a game to see who could find it," contest chairman Sue Gruber said. "If a child found it they might receive a special gift. If an adult found it they would receive good luck. When we learned of the gurken game, we knew we had to include this in our Fashing celebrations."
