"This will be the first time all schools in the parish have had the same start and end times," interim superintendent Jackie Sharp said.
New bus routes will shuttle buses among schools in Minden and among schools in Sarepta, Shongaloo, Springhill and Cotton Valley due to the reconfiguration of schools in Webster Parish.
Sharp said students who do not ride the bus should not arrive on campus any earlier than 7:55 a.m. and must be picked up no later than 3:45 p.m.
"The new routes will not affect the serving of breakfast at schools or instructional time," Sharp said.
In the past, school start times were staggered to allow parents with multiple children at different schools time to get from one location to another.
"As we discussed the situation, we realized staggering school times would not be necessary because of the new configuration of the shuttle buses," Sharp said. "For instance, parents in Minden have a 20 minute window to drop off their children."
Sharp went on to say that a parent could stop at multiple schools in Minden beginning with the first drop off at 7:55 a.m., while still having plenty of time to drop off students at other schools.
According to Sharp, parents will not be allowed to drop off all students at one school of their choosing.
"Students that live in a walk zone should walk to the school their residence is zoned for," She said. "Then students can catch a bus to the school they attend."
Bus passes, or bus route information, will be available at each school after August 1.
Parents may pick up their child's bus pass and make any address corrections at that time.
More bus route information – such as child's bus number, bus stop and pick up time – is available at http://www.websterpsb.org.
Click on the button that says "Find My Bus Number" and use the password "parent" and user name "parent."
Then, follow the prompts on the page. Those who do not have Internet access may call the child's school.
"We understand the frustration parents are going through, and want to make accessing the information as easy as possible," Sharp said. "We have so many changes to implement this year and it has taken a lot of work and time. We are asking parents to be patient as some route times may need to be adjusted slightly during the first weeks of school."
