Ground blessing slated for tonight

Sixteen Minden families and the Fuller Center for Housing are counting their blessings and invite the public and volunteers to a ground blessing ceremony tonight at 7:30 at Legacy Acres, which is dedicated to an upcoming build.

Executive Director Charlie Park said the ground blessing is a significant observance of the fact that the Legacy Build is only 90 days away.

"It will be a short ceremony but it will be very meaningful," Park said. "I'm not going to say much more about it except that there may be a nice surprise for those involved."

The ground blessing will be held in Legacy Acres on Millard Fuller drive.

The new street and subdivision is being developed by the Webster Development fund, which is the resource arm of Fuller Center for Housing/Webster Parish.

According to Park, Legacy Acres will be the site of the 3rd annual Millard Fuller Legacy Build, which is an annual week long build where a hundred houses are erected in Millard Fuller's honor and his desire for everyone to have decent affordable housing.

The five-day event will take place in October.

Park said volunteers from around the country and the local community will build eight houses in the new subdivision and refurbish an additional eight existing homes in the nearby community.

Local residents are encouraged to attend the blessing ceremony and to sign up to volunteer for the Legacy Build.

"The public is invited to attend," Park said. "There will be plenty of parking at the ground blessing as well as additional parking on an adjacent street (on the corner of Bell and Pine)."

Volunteers will be coming from all over the country to participate in the five-day build.
