Fasching to receive state grant

The Minden Downtown Development Commission/ Minden Main Street Board of Directors met at the Dorcheat Museum Tuesday night to discuss their financial statement and approve agenda items.

The commission/board currently has a balance of $39,937.86 to work with. Among the things needed to approve included Fasching Sponsorship of $5,000.

"The state has approved a $16,000 grant for Fasching," Odom said. "I know the Tourism Commission is going to approve funds, as well. I think Minden Main Street should commit at least $5,000 to the event."

The sponsorship was approved.

Odom also told the commission/board that Minden has been added to the Holiday Trail of Lights and discussed what the downtown area could do to make the event successful.

"We have to be better than Marshall and Jefferson," Odom said. "And we can be if we all work together. This will get people to the area."

The commission/board discussed the downtown Christmas lights, but didn't make an official decision. More on those will be discussed at the next meeting.

Other agenda items included:

n Putting a billboard on Lee Street for $75 a month- discussed but no vote was held; and,

n Banner event slices (event advertising tags placed at the bottom of banners) for $8 each- approved.

At the end of the meeting, Odom reminded the commission/directors that Hot August Nights will be held August 25 from 5 until 8 p.m. and that it would double as an Art Walk.

The next Minden Downtown Development Commission/Minden Main Street Board of Directors meeting will be held August 23 at the Main Street Office at noon.

The public is invited to attend.
