Doctor shopping used to mean looking for a physician to care for your health needs.
Today it means jail time for a Minden man who was arrested by police on five counts of doctor shopping for Xanax.
James Culverhouse, 46, of the 200 block of McIntryre Street, is currently incarcerated at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center with a bond of $50,000.
Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said his detectives were contacted by the state Board of Pharmacy, alerting them that Culverhouse was obtaining Xanax from multiple doctors.
“Our narcotics officers conducted an investigation and were able to obtain warrants for five counts,” Cropper said. “He showed up at a local doctor’s office where they were aware we were looking for him and called us.”
Capt. Marvin Garrett, Sgt. Heath Balkom and Sgt. Chris Cheatham arrested Culverhouse at the doctor’s office.
Cropper said all counts of doctor shopping were local physicians.
