Wrong lane is key to arrest

derron_thompsonDriving in the wrong lane on Carolina Street netted a Minden man more than a careless operation charge.

Darron Thompson, 27, of the 100 block of Loop Road, was arrested by Minden Police officer Danny Turner and charged with possession of CDS Sch. III (Lortab), careless operation of a vehicle and expired motor vehicle inspection sticker.

Police Chief Steve Cropper said Turner was traveling east on Carolina Street when he observed a black vehicle headed west in the east-bound lane.

"Off. Turner turned his unit around and made the traffic stop," Cropper said. "He observed the driver to be very nervous, so he asked him a couple of questions – and then asked him if he had anything illegal in the vehicle."

Thompson reportedly gave Turner permission to search the vehicle.

"Once inside, Off. Turner located two blue pills which turned out to be Lortab," Cropper said.

Home Invasion

In an unrelated incident, Minden Police Officer Chris Hammontree arrested Latavion Seamster, 19, of Mason Alley in Minden for home invasion, criminal damage to property and simple battery.

Cropper said Hammontree was dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of Carolina Street to answer a call concerning a break-in and fight.

"Off. Hammontree observed Seamster attempting to exit the residence through a broken window," Cropper said. "He detained Seamster and contacted the people inside the residence."

The chief said the residents indicated Seamster had "banged on the door," and when they wouldn't answer, he broke a window pane, climbed through and attempted to fight one of the residents.

"I don't know what it was, but there were hard feelings between them for some reason," Cropper said.
