Just in time for the spirit of Easter, the Sibley Volunteer Fire Department will host its 35th annual Bass Fishing Tournament on Saturday, March 30.
"We put this fundraiser on to buy fruit baskets for elderly and disabled citizens in the district during Christmas," District President of SVFD, Robert Smart said.
He also added that funds used from the tournament will also be used to purchase smoke and/or carbon monoxide detectors.
The tournament is open to contestants in a two-person team with an entry fee of $60.
Fishing will start at 6:30 a.m. and weigh in will be at Sibley Town Hall at 3:15 p.m. This year the fishing area has been expanded to include any fresh water lake with a public boat ramp.
Contestants can sign up until Friday, March 29. One member of the team must attend a meeting Friday, March 29 at 6 p.m. at Sibley Town Hall, 345 North Main Street, Sibley. However, no entries will be accepted after the Friday evening meeting.
"Last year, we had 118 entrants into the tournament, which was the second largest tournament that we have ever had in 34 years," said Smart.
Participants can also enter into two big fish pots for prizes with a $10 entry fee each per pot and per team. Prizes will be given to teams with the biggest large mouth bass and biggest "trash fish."
First prize for each pot will get 60 percent of the winnings and second prize will receive 40 percent.
