Local schools, churches, civic organizations, and even private citizens have gone above and beyond to feed the hungry by stocking the pantry at UCAP (United Christian Assistance Program).
"I've been here 11 years," said UCAP volunteer Madeline Gilbert. "I've never seen this much – food, clothing, everything. See? Prayers are answered."
Gilbert stopped short of naming all the schools, churches and persons that have donated this holiday season, saying she was afraid of leaving someone out.
"I am on cloud nine," she said. "We were so depleted last summer with food and volunteers, I was afraid we would have to close our doors. Now, Santa has come early."
UCAP gives out food clothing and some financial assistance for utility bills. All officers and staff workers are volunteers; therefore, after office expenses, all proceeds from monetary contributions are applied directly to funding services.
