Minden High travels to Woodlawn

Crimson Tide still searching for first win of the season

There were thoughts that this season would be a rebuilding year for the Minden Crimson Tide, as the Tide graduated 20 of 22 starters from a year ago, but no one expected an 0-6 start to the season.

And now, the Tide faces an 0-7 start if they can't beat the Woodlawn Knights Friday night at Lee Hedges Stadium in Shreveport.

Woodlawn has also gotten off to a tough start. They began the season 0-5 before beating Northwood, 15-12, last week.

The Knights are led by senior running back Richard Bell. Bell leads the team in rushing and scored a touchdown last week against Northwood. He then picked off a pass on defense that sealed the win.

Defensive lineman Christopher Robinson (6-3 275) anchors the defense, along with linebackers Quadiere Thomas and James Washington.

The Crimson Tide has struggled on offense this year, but showed some life last week against Fair Park.

The Tide ran the ball pretty well in the first half, before turning to the pass almost exclusively after halftime.

Quarterback Turner Francis enjoyed his best game of the year, as he completed 22 of 47 passes for 271 yards and a touchdown.

Most of Francis' passes were aimed in the vicinity of Elgin Moore, who caught 14 passes for 221 yards including a 61-yard touchdown.

Taylor McKissack led the Tide with 47 yards rushing, as the Tide totaled 331 yards of total offense. Normally that would be good enough to secure a win, but the Tide struggled once they got into the red zone against Fair Park

The Crimson Tide ventured into the red zone six times against the Indians, but came away with zero points, including being stopped on a fourth and goal from the one-yard line right before the half. The Tide will have to concentrate on converting on any and every scoring opportunity if they want to come away with their first win of the season.
