Knights beat Homer, 34-12

SPRINGHILL-The North Webster Knights pushed their winning streak to three games as they beat the Homer Pelicans, 34-12, on Friday night. It was a win that meant a lot to coach John Ware and his team.

"It was a big win against a quality opponent," Ware said. "We came in and played with a lot of confidence and really played well in all phases of the game. The kids deserve a lot of credit, they're picking everything up really well and they're doing everything that's asked of them. I also thought my coaching staff did an excellent job all the way around. It was just a total team effort."

Knights' quarterback J.O. Smith ran for 167 yards and three touchdowns to lead the North Webster offense.

"When you have a player out there like him, it makes a huge difference," Ware said of Smith. "He had a great game for us. Honestly for the last three weeks we've had different players step up for us on offense. But J.O. has been the catalyst."

Austin had an interception and returned a fumble for a touchdown to lead the defense. Lyntravious Gipson carried 10 times for 69 yards and Devin White had six carries for 39 yards and a touchdown.

"The defense played excellent," Ware said. "I'd be willing to bet that we held Homer to a negative yardage of offense through three quarters. They scored twice late in the game on long passes. But our defense played lights out."

Ware was more than pleased with his squad.

"I was real roud of them," he said. "It was just a well-rounded victory. The kids have really bought into our system and that's the main thing. Also mny coaching staff has really come together and we worked well together as a team."

Next up for the Knights will be the Calvary Cavaliers.

"Well, we'll be playing a nationaly ranked team this week," Ware said. "We'll go over there and do the best that we can, and I do know that our kids will go over there and play hard."
